Thr garden has come alive Empty Thr garden has come alive

Post  Christine Wed Mar 04, 2009 4:53 pm

Good afternoon everyone, thought I'd just drop a line to share the fun of the garden. the sun is out and the flowers are opening, our first daffodils (yes, I realize they've probably been out for ages down South Smile ) look wonderful, there are primroses/primulas, (have been all winter on and off) crocuses (mostly purple, the birds and squirrels will not leave the yellow ones for us) and miniature irises today, as well as the witch hazel and an orange bush (some sort of berberis?) in bloom. There are some flowers that were in the garden when we moved in, years ago, and we still don't know their name, they bloom, but the flower is green, they look nice though. (You can tell we aren't great gardeners!) The birds are loving it, right now in the garden I can see blackbirds, robins, great tits, blue tits, long-tailed tits, wood pigeons (courting again, I understand they don't stop for the winter, or anything else as far as I can tell) there are a couple of sparrows, we don't see many of them here, a jay, and magpies. All in all I think Spring has sprung. Hope it's as nice where you are, it really is cheering. Very Happy

We have loads of lovely spring flowers out down south.... my daffodils have been out for about 3 weeks now, they are only the little diddy ones though.... my primulas are doing brilliantly, my hydrangea and fuschias are already starting to sprout new bits and my bluebells are coming up stong and green, should be a good crop this year

I love spring flowers x

My mum in Cheltenham had a few daffodils out on Christmas Day Shocked just in one corner of the garden. Mine were just showing through the earth at the time but they are almost out now. Crocuses have been out for a week or so too. I do love it when I see signs of spring Very Happy I noticed this morning that a peony I planted about 3 years ago is showing signs of life. I bought it at half price, long after it should have been planted but it just didn't grow. I moved it last year as the root seemed to be alive still, so hopefully it should flower next year as it has at last started to shoot Very Happy

Fantastic time of year with all the new growth, our climbing roses are showing signs of growth with all new leaves unfolding on it, what with all the flowers and seeing loads of lambs not far from us the other day it is lovely just wish it felt a bit warmer Smile

My daffodils don't seem to have any buds at all this year - had 2 snowdrops and the crocus are out. Primulas not flowering yet either. The garden faces north so everything is always late. Weather doesn't help either - it was bright sunshine with a mixture of hail and snow as I went out this afternoon!

We had snow this afternoon as I went to collect the kids from school.

As for flowers we don't have any in our garden. My Dad brings some up each summer to put in the flower beds but that's all. Around the are peoples gardens have crocuses, snow drops, Primroses and Daffodils growing Smile

Roy was very disappointed this weekend as he usually has at least 1 daffodil ( even if he pinches it from somewhere Shocked )around on St David's Day ('cos he's Welsh) and there weren't any around here. Ones in his neighbour's garden came out next day Laughing

Makes a change from all this brown earth, dry grass and dust. Town gardens have a little more green and the hibiscus, frangipani, bouganvillia, roses, agapanthus and kangaroo paw all look stunning in spite of the drought.

Hope there are still some left when we get back. Not many snowdrops this year but we had a few peeping through the snow. The sqirells seem to have got the crocuses but I will still have some fritilleries and iris reticulata in between all the mini daffs at the front (tete a tete?)

I love spring as its so fresh and alive and colourful after a drab dull winter Smile All the flowers are out exceptionally early this year. In previous years, there were no daffodils in people's gardens, well no open ones anyway, so we always had to buy the ones which had been forced and were a bit lack lustre compared to garden daffs. This year they were out everywhere at the beginning of Feb almost. Its even stranger knowing what a harsh winter we've had this year. I have lavender and jasmine in bloom in my garden, they are way too early but what the heck the mass of butterflies and bees around them are lovely to watch Smile

I know a few of you make your own 3d sheets and backgrounds, I have a mass of flower photos that might be of some use to you guys. Any suggestions on the easiest way I can share them with everyone without reducing their size and quality to the point that it makes them grainy when folk try and resize them back up.?

That type of thing, I know they are not brilliant but could make some nice decoupage sheets he he
