I come from just outside Edinburgh originally

Maggie, what are the craft shops like in Edinburgh? Hope to stop there with my husband's cousins for a few days on my way to visit my relatives in St Andrews next month. Just planning the trip at the moment and haven't finalised dates yet.

My son has plyed the course there and LOVED it

They actually live just outside St Andrews now in a place called Strathkinness!

I spend most of my summers there growing up. My parents would put me on the train in London and I was met at the other end and spent the whole school holiday there. I loved staying with my cousin as she had 3 small children whom I loved to look after and play with (as I am an only child)

Spend many happy hours playing on the sands in in the rock pools. Used to love to go over to Tentsmuir forest and swim with the seals on the beach there. Haven't been back for years. Never played real golf though but was quite good on the putting green.

Sounds as if you have some wonderful memories of your childhood there Jane, it will be great to go back and relive them all

Can't beat inspiring pictures and toe-tapping music for a 'lift'

Sounds idyllic
I tried to play golf once and ended up with a very infalmed right arm
I kept hitting the grass at great speed
OUCH!

My elder son is quite a good golfer and has a few trophies
He obviously watched his Mum and did the opposite

You won't be far from my home town when you are in Edinburgh
Bathgate is half an hour away on the train
My younger son, when he isn't away trekking, lives right in the city
I haven't ever been craft shopping up there but if Maggie has any tips I will keep them in mind for any future visits

Thanks for your welcome Scotty. I am not really new as such. I joined a while ago but I think with the forum being reorganised I am being shown as just having joined. Not to worry it's nice speaking to you.

Jane to get to the craft shops in Edinburgh you will need a map as they are quite apart from each other. There is one at Slateford Road called the Edinburgh Craft Shop. Another in Portobello High Street called Get Creative and one in Clerk Street called Dunedin Crafts which is not long opened and not as well stocked as the others, but getting there. There might be more but these are the only ones I know of.

I have made a note of those too Maggie, thanks. We are supposed to be going touring around Scotland next month but our son took the Camper van yesterday to Cornwall and just before he arrived it blew the head gasket It overheated so he waited for it to cool down and put more water in so he got to the campsite but the AA has told him whats wrong. Fortunately he can complete his few days away and then the AA will bring them back as he has full recovery service, thank goodness. Hopefully it can be repaired in time for our holiday
