I've been lurking for a while...
Hello peeps - I'm Kevin (one of those rare-bread male crafters!) and as the subject says, I've been lurking here for some time; I'm really quite shy (hmm, don't think most people at work would agree with that! ) but I've finally plucked up the courage.
Firstly, thank you to Jacky (craftworker); twas me you met in the Craft Cow today! I realised, later, when I was logging on here, that your avatar is of Molly, not (as it was a while ago) a picture of your good self! Sorry! You certainly don't look like your current avatar. I'm quite sure I'm beginning to lose my marbles... I don't normally accost strangers in shops (honest) but it gave me the kick I needed to join, so thank you.
A little about myself: I've been card making since the middle of 2008 - the idea was to save money on shop bought cards. Hmm, don't think my credit card agrees with that now! I've also dabbled for many years with sugarcraft (and made a few wedding cakes) although I do very little of that now.
Well, that's enough from me yapping - look forward to chatting at some point with y'all.

A belated welcome KevinKittyhawk wrote: I don't normally accost strangers in shops (honest) but it gave me the kick I needed to join, so thank you.
I didn't realise that you were that new
Now spill the beans
What has our Jacky been up to now?
We really will have to watch her
As you will have seen it is a very friendly forum
I read with interest that you used to do sugar crafting
That used to be something I did many moons ago
Wedding cakes, birthday cakes, Christening cakes........ the lot
Used to really love the whole procedure
Got a bit much though when I suddenly started getting invited to all these weddings
The penny finally dropped when I realised that I was continually being asked to do the cake as the present
Canny lot, us Scots
Don't know the last time I cooked as much as a fairy cake
Hope to see you on the Forum a lot more
Re: I've been lurking for a while...
Sadie, I know what you mean about the wedding invites; just thought it was because I was popular! Haven't made any cakes for a couple of years now. The last one I did was a chocolate wedding cake (two layers were chocolate (no bake cake - certainly different), one was a proper fruit cake). Have to say, that was also the easiest as we decorated the cake with fresh flowers. Mind you, the chocolate cakes had to be made pretty much the day before the wedding and the wedding was a couple of days after Christmas; talk about sick of the sight of it (and food in general). Must admit, I was so pleased with the result - it took my breath away when I saw it!
Anyway, nice to see you back - I was lurking on here before you had your leave of absence. It really took me that long to pluck up the courage to join. Daft or what!
Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome - I hope to get on as often as I can, but sometimes, life just gets in the way.

Re: I've been lurking for a while...
Iam glad about that , who would tease us with those mouth watering recipes !!!
Re: I've been lurking for a while...
That chocolate cake sounds WOW!
Last cake I made was our wedding cake near 6 years ago
We both decorated it together
The Saltire and St George's cross were 'painted' on the top tier with 3 red roses to represent Alan's 3 boys and 4 bunches of heather and thistles to represent my 'children' tied up with Black Watch tartan
Was a few years since I had decorated a cake and it took me a wee while to work out that it was easier to do the crosses on hardened pieces of icing flag-shapes instead of attempting them directly on the cake
Boy does dark blue and red icing colouring not half bleed!
And those white crosses on both flags were pure murder to keep white
If memory serves me right I think we cheated and just made one red and one blue flag with the white in 3d even that took a few attempts as the darn colour kept seeping in
My daughter is getting married in October this year and did hint about the cake but there is no way I could do that now
I will stick to making the invites etc
OMG you have been lingering a long time!
I am so pleased we both took the plunge at the same time
Keep posting
Would LOVE to see some of your cards

Re: I've been lurking for a while...
Wow, your cake certainly sounds impressive. I did offer to make my sisters cake (although the wedding is now on hold as they've decided to buy a house instead) although she wasn't too keen, plus she wants a chocolate cake with chocolate icing that I've never done - chocolate can be quite scary and I'm not sure I've got the patience. I'd certainly do my own, although I can't ever see me getting married (there are a number of people that want to slap my wrists every time I say that). Not that I'm complaining; it wasn't until we broke up that I realised I prefer being single.
Thanks for the encouragement to keep posting. Sometime, I wonder if people are really interested in my waffling and think better of posting and work is so hectic at the moment, I rarely get time during the week to get on here.
I will post some cards, at some point. It's conditional on me 1) making some (hardly had time to make any this year), 2) getting the photos from the camera to my PC (took me until Christmas to get my Wimbledon ones downloaded), 3) get my head around posting them on here. Actually, that just sounds like a list of excuses! I do have a card up in the shop, though!
