UPS EMAIL VIRUS
If you receive an email supposedly from UPS about a missed delivery DON'T OPEN IT. It is a very nasty virus which can potentially download all of your personal data, passwords, bank details etc. and my PC is out of action because of it.
MooVision will more than likely be canceled this week because of it!

Re: UPS EMAIL VIRUS
Dang I had heard but thought it was another of those hoax emails, you get so many distributed around these days. Crux of it is I ignore it, but I have to admit to not opening any emails from unknown addresses. Hope its sorted for you soon Ann.

Snap but the send from address looked legit, I even detached the attachment and scanned it with the anti-virus before I opened it but it didn't show up anything
Re: UPS EMAIL VIRUS
Well I've used two different virus checkers and a spyware checker and got no virus thank goodness. Didn't think I would have as they run in the background all the time and I've had no dodgy emails.
The message about scripts I only get on Craft Cow site so do hope you haven't got a problem with website Anne. While I was browsing Google about viruses I found this on AVG site:
"An exploit is a piece of malware – in this case a rootkit - that takes advantage of a newly-announced or otherwise unpatched vulnerability. These vulnerabilities are most often found in operating systems, browsers, and other applications that routinely connect to the web, like media players and PDF readers.
Exploits can be hidden on any kind of web page – recent victims include Alicia Keys’ MySpace page and the Major League Baseball (MLB.com) site. They are usually delivered as a drive-by download which – as its name implies – happens invisibly, without your knowledge."
A bit worrying!!
I also use Mcafee Site Advisor which tells you if any sites are dodgy before you go on them but maybe it doesn't pick these threats up.

Re: UPS EMAIL VIRUS
Hi Sue
I think the two things are unrelated. There is/was a problem with the website showing that message, I'm waiting to hear back from the techy guys, they say it's most probably where I've not deleted something fully so half of a command is trying to run.
I too have all the virus checkers going but they don't pick this one up! I looked on a couple of techy blogs about this particular virus and not one of the virus checkers tested (10 in total) picked it up! I contacted AVG and told them I had this virus and asked how could I get rid of it (Monday), got a reply back today suggesting I ran my anti-virus software. I sent a rather snotty mail back starting off "Wow! I never thought of doing that...."
As this isn't sorted out I am definitely canceling MooVision this week.

Re: UPS EMAIL VIRUS
Hi Anne, tried shop site again and it's now fine. Interestingly though the cow cursor didn't come up. Looks like your techy guys have sorted it whatever it was.
How did you know you had a virus if the software wasn't picking it up?

Re: UPS EMAIL VIRUS
I guessed when I opened the attachment (after I had detached it and scanned it first!) and nothing happened. When I opened my PC up next time I got the blue screen so I rebooted and then it opened but Windows didn't load, I had to start Windows through the task manager. I was then able to run the anti-virus which picked up nothing
