Castaway Inkpad
Has anyone used one of these? I got one in a sample pack and have used it with the paper they sent which was supposed to work with it, but not very impressed with the results. If you haven't come across it you stamp an image onto dark paper, leave it to dry for about 10 minutes then iron it with a hot iron and the image is sort of bleached out. Mine just looked like a brown smudgy mess! Would like to hear if anyone has gor good results and if so what I'm doing wrong!
Re: Castaway Inkpad
I have never heard of them either Sue, sorry.
Found this on another forum -
"I love the effect that you get with the Castaway pads, however they don't work with all kinds of card, so you need to be prepared to test the card's reaction first somewhere inconspicuous. If it is coated, the Castaway may not work."

Re: Castaway Inkpad
Sounds like its the same effect as bleaching over a peel-off on card and that can be very hit and miss with darker card.
Re: Castaway Inkpad
Never heard of this either but sounds interesting
Keep us informed if you get anywhere with it Sue

Re: Castaway Inkpad
Spent Sunday afternoon playing with this pad. Tried different cardstock, leaving it for longer before ironing and shorter. Came to the conclusion that I was wasting my time as the results were less than impressive. In fact most of the time I couldn't see what I'd stamped. Don't think I'll be bothering with it again.

Such a shame that you wasted your time and money.

Don't feel too bad about it as it was part of a goody bag type of thing, but glad I diidn't buy it specially!
Castaway Pad
I bought one of them several months ago and have had some great results using it with hero arts collage stamps on navy and one make of black card. Took me ages to find the right card and to get images I was happy with.

Re: Castaway Inkpad
I sell these in the shop but I must admit I haven't used them. I will have to have a go now!
Re: Castaway Inkpad
I'd be interested to see what results you got Nett - any chance you could post some on here?
The pictures in Craft Stamper looked good and the sample pack I had was from them so would have expected the card to work! Be interesting to see how you get on Anne if you try it out. I know it's supposed to be a jaquard effect so wasn't expecting it to be really white but did think I'd be able to see it!!

Re: Castaway Inkpad
They had this on QVC yesterday with some very nice stamps. Dawn Bibby had used it on lighter card than I tried and said you could also use a heat gun. Going to have another play later. I'm determined to get it to work I think maybe I let it dry too long and I used a travel iron as I didn't want to get the ink on my good one so maybe that wasn't hot enough.
Re: Castaway Inkpad
After I bought my Castaway pad at the convention, came home and tried it right away. I am not crazy about the results either. It's just cheaper and easier to just use bleach that you use for doing the laundry. I do believe it depends on the cardstock and the color. It tends to work best on the cheaper cardstock. I also used a heat gun instead of an iron. The color did seem to come out a tad lighter.

Maybe the site will share more ideas on the castaway pad.

Re: Castaway Inkpad
Here goes a direct link to the castaway pad, it says to wait 5 minutes then use iron. Maybe 10 minutes is to long... here goes the direct link:

Hope this helps.

Re: Castaway Inkpad
I had another play with it yesterday and managed to get it to work on one piece of card using the heat gun. But it took quite a long time to change. The trouble is you waste so much card trying it out.
Re: Castaway Inkpad
Glad you succeeded Sue, but I understand about wasting card until you know which type of card it works on. Did you try it again on the card that you had with it
Re: Castaway Inkpad
Hi all
i haven't tried this pad but had some poor success with just bleac h on coloured card...however i have also tried using an inked background then using bleach to remove the colour from part of the stamped image (using a brush) and this worked really well . I guess if you tried it with the ink pad you should get a whitish image on your inked background. Can't see that the pad is worth buying tho
