Jenny M wrote:I'll post that boiled cake recipe when its set up
I'll have to take a look at that as it doesn't sound very appetising Although I am sure it tastes far better than it sounds
Re: New Section
Aaaaahhhh, I see!! I've looked at the recipe, I thought it was all boiled in water somehow, wrapped up in muslin or something like that
Re: New Section
I've had a boiled cake and found it delicious - it is lovely and moist. I have never made one so looking forward to trying this one out
Re: New Section
I make a similar one -soaking the fruit in tea for a few hours then adding beaten egg and flour (no fat)
I make it in a 1lb loaf tin and slice it thinly the next day. Delicious spread with butter!

May as well put the fat in then Jane - saves time when youre eating it
Re: New Section
Must admit I don't like butter now after using Flora for years. My sister still has butter and it always tastes off now
Re: New Section
No. I have seen it advertised and thought I may try it - I can imagine it in jacket potatoes. I have been buying a pack of 4 light philly individual packs and use one on a jacket potato instead of butter or cheese. I'm watching my cholestrol. Havent seen the Flora buttery in the shop, must see what's in it
Re: New Section
The boiled cake is a very similar recipe to the one that Prince Charles raves about and has sent up to him from Carmarthen The woman who makes them and runs a shop down there is an old school friend of mine
Re: New Section
Sounds a bit like Clootie Dumpling
It is a very rich fruit cake made in a cloth 'Cloot'
It is steamed and is very fattening
The outer part of it is suet and though it sounds terrible it is mouthwatering too
I must rake out the recipe
Must be a Celtic thing

Hi Vinoy
I am so pleased you have posted
Please accept my welcome and my apologies for not welcoming you sooner
Glad you like the idea and hope to be seeing some of your favourite recipes on this newly-opened thread
Just had a thought...........we don't have a thread for new members to introduce themselves and it is so easy to miss
What does everyone think of a thread for this?
