Best Apple Crumble in the world....
Now this has got to be the nicest ever Apple Crumble I have tasted... so am gonna let you have the recipe..... Emily made it at school and her teacher let her have the recipe they used... it is just such a beautiful taste.. any bakers have to read this and try it...
Ingredients...
180g plain flour
120g unsalted butter chilled and cut into cubes
160g caster sugar
1kg Bramley Apples
Zest of half a lemon
1 tblspn fresh lemon juice
1 - 2 tblspns of water
Method...
Put flour and butter in a bowl and rub together with fingertips till resembling course breadcrumbs. (or pulse in food mixer, thats what I did LOL)
Tip in 80g of the sugar and mix in. Refrigerate this while doing the rest.
Set oven to Gas Mark 4 or 180C/350F
Peel and core apples, cut into chunks. Toss the apples with the lemon zest, lemon juice, remaining sugar and the water. Put into a shallow ovenproof dish (large as serves 6 -
Scatter the topping over the apples, squishing small chunks of the crumble topping so that you get crunchy bits!!! Bake for 40 minutes and serve how you like with custard, cream or ice cream.

Wish you hadn't put a photo Lou - I really want some now Sounds really good and have some apples in, will have to give it a try. Thanks

Looks yummy Lou, when I saw the diabetic nurse she said as sugar is only for sweetness then can halve the amount used so will give it a try, half the sugar twice the portion

Emily's cookery teacher must be better than the one I had! I remember making a crumble when I was about 11 and even my baby sister refused to eat it, and crumble was one of the few things she wasn't fussy about. The crumble mix as I recall seemed to be mainly flour!
Now I make my version which is quite toffeeish on top.
8 ozs SR flour.
4 ozs marg
4 ozs demerara sugar.
Rub fat in flour till like breadcrumbs add sugar, sprinkle over fruit then add another ounce of demerara sprinkled over top.
Bake, eat and enjoy.

Forgot to say I usually put a couple of ounces of porridge oats in mine, and if you really are a chocoholic then a couple of tablespoons of chocolate chips

My ex mother in law makes a to die for crumble, but yours
does look yummy Lou
If you substitute a couple of ounces of flour for ground almonds it
comes out really yummy too

.........or add cinnamon and nutmeg (and maybe cloves) with some juicy sultanas instead of lemon if you like it spicy.
