Wire Flowers

Not too difficult, here are the instructions.

Materials needed:

Gold & dark colour 26 or 28 gauge wire (the higher the number, the thinner the wire)
Mulberry Paper
Tiny seed beads
UHU or Bostick glue
small sharp scissors
Kitchen paper


Leaf spray - start with this to build up your confidence. You can use spares behind slik or punched flowers.

1. Cut a piece of green wire about 14" - 18” or 35 - 45 cm
2. Fold wire in half make a loop (about 3cm long) twist 3 times to secure
3. With the fingers, pinch the top and pull out gently to shape the loop
4. Separate the rest of the wire one piece to the left and one to the right
5. Make 2 more leaves in the same way.
6. Cut three pieces of green mulberry paper and glue to the back of the leaves
7. Trim surplus paper close to the wire when completely dry (about 10 mins)
8. Neaten by twisting the 2 strands together or by wrapping around a cocktail

4,5 or 6 Petal Flower

1. Cut approx. 60 - 90cm (2 - 3 feet, depending on the number of petals) of chosen wire.
2. Starting at one end of the wire, make a loop about 3cm long (just over 1”) and twist 3-4 times. As you get more proficient you can make the petals smaller. Arrange these petals equally spaced out
3. Place any remaining wire to the back and thread on about 12 - 15 beads in random order and colour. (If you have less then 10cm (4”) remaining, twist in another piece of wire.)
4. Wrap the wire around and between the petals of the flower allowing 3 or 4 beads to drop with each twist. These will hide the surplus wire and sit close together in the centre to represent the stamens.
5. Twist remaining pieces of wire together at the back of the flower.
6. Open out the petal by pulling out the sides gently to form a nice rounded shape.
7. Cut 5 - 6 pieces of Mulberry paper to fit each petal
8. Turn flower over and work from the back. Put a thin line of glue around the first petal then immediately wipe most of it off with the kitchen paper.
9. Press on the Mulberry paper and carefully trim the excess close to the wire when glue dries.
10. Repeat with the rest of the petals, moving them a little to reach each one if necessary.

Glue finished flower to your card using a hot glue gun or by pushing the wires through a small hole punched in card and secure ends with tape. Vary number of petals and also shape for other flowers e.g. 10 long narrow petals for sunflower or daisy - 5 large, 5 small for a dahlia - 3 small and 2 larger for a pansy - 4 large flat topped for poppy etc.
