Always look on the bright side!
Lexie was asking about our travel arrangements. Long haul is a pain but we've found a way to make it less of a chore and more of an adventure.
We travel with Singapore Airlines and they are brilliant - great planes (we're on the giant A380 Airbus - double decker) more space, good food (3 choices, real cutlery and a menu! - not bad for economy) Decent TV screen and huge choice of things to do and watch (headphones connected to point next to screen so no fumbling down the side of the seats either!) lots of free drinks and gracious service.
As we're in the air for 22 hours and on the ground in Singapore for 5 hours we take that as part of the holiday rather than a necessary evil. We even pop a cozzy in the handluggage and have a nice swim in the hotel pool on the roof of the main terminal - they provide towel, showers, changing facilities and a drink and snack - all for a few pounds. Its a great way to spruce up and get some exercise after all that sitting on the first leg of the journey. Mind you, its really weird swimming by moon light, laying on leather sunbeds surrounded by tropical flowers and noises or sitting in the jacuzzi with planes taking off above you in temperatures of 30 at midnight!
The shops are fabulous and the gardens (orchid, butterfly, sunflower, cactus etc) are amazing - so tranquil and beautiful. The whole flying experience can be fun if you have a positive attitude and get creative!
I think at last I am getting a tad excited........... and...... 14 out of 20 things on my 'to-do' list have been ticked. S*d the snow - its not going to ruin this holiday

Never been to Hong Kong Lou - it was Singapore!
Checking the flights (same number each day, leaving at the same time) and they've all gone out on time, so far!
Just need to get to Heathrow................... fingers crossed

Re: Always look on the bright side!
The weather is crazy in South Australia too.
At Murray Bridge (1 hour's drive away) it was 46C yesterday but at 11.30am today the temperature was back to 19C.
Temperatures in Adelaide dropped to 25C by about 7.30am after an overnight minimum of 28C, the bureau predicting about 5-15mm of rainfall across Adelaide by mid-afternoon.
All I know is its giving me a massive headache. 2 years ago when we went is was so cold after dark we couldn't eat outside without shivering and last year it was too hot to sit outside (except in the pool)

Re: Always look on the bright side!
Lou, I thought someone went to Hong Kong too, perhaps someone else on here did
Re: Always look on the bright side!
Shame - I'm almost looking forward to it. It's one day of the holiday so I try to make the most of it ........good food, comfy seats (best economy airline) and lots of good films to watch. The swim, shower, food and drink & the shopping and walking round orchid and butterfly gardens at the airport helps pass some more time then, hopefully a bit more sleep on the last leg and we'll be there. Wayhay, I'm being positive for once.
Re: Always look on the bright side!
You make it sound so lovely Jane I have often wished that he would pluck up the courage to do so, but I think aboard is the boat and a train for us, and I am not the keen on anything higher then bath water height
Re: Always look on the bright side!
I wish we could upgrade to Business but even economy is better then average and we're at the back (side) where there are only 2 seats instead of the usual 3!
If money was no option, just imagine what it would be like to have a suite! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIOsNVkGRN4

I adore travelling ( was my job for a long time , in a previous life BEFORE kids ! used to be a Trolley Dolly , so I am very lucky have travelled throughout the world and seen and done some amazing things , truly very lucky . love Singers Jane , used to have some good shopping doen orchid road .Best food was from ' Fattys ' A funny local restarant where no tourists went and no one spoke english , just the best!
Mum phoned tonight and we are booked into he Kruger Park , we stay in the park at the Park Board accomation , not many tourists do that but you really get the feel of it all AND hundreds of rand cheaper than all the fancy hotels. The accomadation is basic ,very clean with a small but fuctional bathroom and a veranda.Had some stories to tell about the camps and Kruger Park ,one night after lots of yummy food and lots of yummy wine , got into bed, was woken by mum as we had a bat flying round the room ! It landed and stayed by my pillow for about 4 hours .....I know 'cos I was awake! nite gang x

Not my idea of a good holiday, I won't even go to a Safari Park in England Went to one and a rhino was stood on the road blocking the way, I was petrified although it just moved over, I thought it was going to charge us Sally loved it when she went to S.Africa and stayed on the park.

I have a story about a rhino, myself and Mike were out oneday and drove past Howletts near Canterbury and I said oh oh a nosorus and Mike was like yeah yeah yeah and I swear when we went back the other way it was gone, well he didnt believe I had seen one and then some months later we went back down the same road and there is was a huge rhino standing as still as anything, and I was like there are I told you so, not sure why we missed it on the way back the first time it was big enough to see and hadnt moved an inch because........it was made of concrete
