Junk yard crafting - Jamaican style :)
I've been at it again he he This week's must buy is the Asda coconut rice selling at £1 ish he he. Eat and enjoy the contents, then wash the now empty container. Cut the sides away leaving you with the flat base to play with. Place one of the new Cuttlebug border folders and create the image as shown. Each container allows 2 toppers to be created. You can also put through one of the background embossing folders for a great matting sheet for one of your cards.
Once embossed they can be coloured with Sakura pens, or the metallic rubs [can't think of the proper name for the stuff but you apply it with your fingers] that is great for giving it an aged look. The edge around the images was created using one of my metal working edging tools.
Have fun eating and crafting

Now there's a thought. You must have read my mind. I've just been upstairs playing with metals ready for a class next week.

I drink a lot of juice that comes in boxes. They get recycled all the time as they are foil lined. I wash them out and then cut off the sides to use on cards in diff ways. They go through the cuttlebug great for cutting or embossing. I also use the boxes.cut the top off and then recover with wrap paper, or other, put on handles. Great gift holders. I also use cereal boxes that have no printing inside in the same way for gifts. Cereal boxes, tops cut off and the front and back cut with an angle (like file folders) great for storing magazines, etc, neatly on a shelf.
Save all the foil off cottage cheese etc. great for embossing too. People always ask why I have a box of empty cereal and juice boxes in my craft room.
Using the Rub and Buff on the foil you can get some lovely effects.

What fantastic ideas,
I feel a trip to Asda coming on as love coconut rice and also want to give the embossing a try with my cuttlebug. Thanks Jen,

Coconut rice? I haven't discovered that one - Is it a sweet or savoury?
Re: Junk yard crafting - Jamaican style :)
Savoury Jane. I do make my own red beans and coconut rice too using coconut milk and the standard red kidney beans. Its a Jamaican thing passed down from the in-laws hehe
Re: Junk yard crafting - Jamaican style :)
sounds yummy, must look out for it later (also sounds asif it might have a lot of calories too - still, who's counting?)

Well certainly not me
I adore coconut rice. I had some with the take away curry we had while away in Dorset last week. It was delicious

Re: Junk yard crafting - Jamaican style :)
The version I cook is very easy and basic just add red kidney beans to the rice. Then replace half the water with coconut milk, or replace all the water if you want a richer flavour. Cook for the normal time. Voila done
Re: Junk yard crafting - Jamaican style :)
What would you eat it with - I'm afraid I'm not very adventurous with cooking. Had my first pasta salad Saturday when my new daughter in law gave it to me. Didn't like to offend her so had a little bit and really enjoyed it. I had never thought I could eat cold pasta My son and daughter both enjoy cooking and experiment with it.
Re: Junk yard crafting - Jamaican style :)
I'm off to Asda with my big boy today. Will have look for the coconut rice and then have a play with the container once it is empty. I shall try what our Jen suggests. Can't wait to try it or eat the rice
I love pasta salad and rice salad............................. I love most things, but draw the line at porrige!!!

Didn't find any coconut rice in our ASDA. must have been looking inthe wrong place.
Re: Junk yard crafting - Jamaican style :)
is it coconut milk or coconut cream that you cook with your ordinary rice. I have used west indian recipes which have the coconut milk and/or cream - but have never come across coconut rice

I add the coconut milk when cooking the rice. I use half water and half of the coconut milk and make it in my slow cooker/rice maker.
Jane its stacked with the other prepared meals down at the end of the deli counter, next to the pilau rice, egg fried rice etc. Not sure if that helps at all hehe
