Old fashioned Cards
These ones are probably 1920's and 2 are on parchment, top one is card with insert.
The next three pictures are 1937. Top ones on parchment type paper, next two quite modern looking on card with gold embellishments and the bottom one has insert - knowing who sent it, it was probably quite up-market as they were quite well-to-do!
Next two pics heralded my arrival and 1st birthday! Quite a mixture, parchment, folded paper, and one is like a postcard!
These two are 1950's. I remeber giving the crinoline lady one to my mum. The bottom of the dress was real lace.
1960's now and the flowery one had a 3d pop out inside!
If you want to see them bigger click on them and it will take you to my photobucket.

I'm sure I've got some more somewhere as there weren't any in this box from when my sister was born and I know mum kept them. I couldn't bring myself to throw them out or all the old photos and I do mean old - victorian - even though I don't know who half the people are. No doubt when my kids inherit them they'll get thrown out though - boys aren't as sentimental.
Re: Old fashioned Cards
I have got some cards from mine and Jaynes birth and some of my 1st birthday cards, can't rightly remember where they are at the mo will have a look round for them.
My Mum used to keep them in a red plastic wallet purse thing in her dressing table and when I was round there oneday she gave them to me, would never throw them out and would be heartbroken if I lost them or they got damaged.
Thanks for showing us your cards Sue

Re: Old fashioned Cards
Gorgeous keepsakes Sue. You could scan them and make Joanna Sheen style cards with them to add to their value
Re: Old fashioned Cards
Oh they are lovely Sue
So elegant too
I have a big box under the bed which also contains my Mum's 21st cards, and her war photos,(all waiting to go in a scrapbook) and they are so much nicer than the commercial cards you get nowadays
I have kept all the cards from my children's births and have put some of them into Albums that I presented to them on their birthdays along with various photos and comments
I remember when I presented my eldest son with his.........
The opening page contained a beautiful new baby card from my Mum and Dad, now no longer with us
He sat with a tear in his eye and couldn't go on to read the rest of it until he was on his own and has often told me it was the best present he ever had
That from the man who has everything!
It had copies of really old photos as well and he took it to a family gathering and went round all the elderly relatives getting them to fill in the names I couldn't and got lots of stories about them as well
So hold onto those photos Sue
It has just dawned on me that I have always been a crafter and a scrapbooker and not realised it

Re: Old fashioned Cards
I have some first birthday cards to, we have always kept the `family` cards, so much change over the years, the ones now that are worth keeping are the handmade ones, I love a card, it means more than a present. Janet xx

The trouble is that there is no-one left to put names to any of the ones I don't know- so they will just have to remain anonymous!
Re: Old fashioned Cards
I passed on the "heritage" photos, cards, newspapers of the day etc to my daughter on her first birthday after becoming a mum. I felt it was the right time for her to be the keeper while I was still alive and able to explain it all to her. I have no intention of dying any time soon, he he but I don't think anyone plans to die do they and as its only her and me its more important for her to be the keeper
I love old memorabilia they seem so elegant compared with today's offerings, unless you have a card maker in the family
