What will be the third thing?

What a wonderful evening I had last night - NOT!! I thought the boiler had gone wrong as it seemed to be still making a noise after it had switched off so eventually phoned British Gas service. They made me turn off the boiler completely, turn off the gas then told me to open all the doors and windows and sent Transco out. Fortunately he came within the hour(and I didn't open all the doors and windows as I was sure there wasn't a leak). He couldn't understand it so went out to look at the flue and it wasn't the boiler at all but a burst pipe!! I felt really stupid! Anyway he turned water off for me as I couldn't move stopcock but told me not to use boiler which seemed a bit odd. Phoned Michael to get his friend who's a plumber to come round today - bless him he came at 10 o'clock last night and turned boiler back on and will come and mend pipe later. Fortunately the utility room is on a separate water circuit to rest of house so the only things I can't use is downstairs loo and washing machine. But I have got some spectacular icicles.





Anyway after all that excitement I decided to go to bed. Thought I'd close the window last night but because it's behind the dressing table have to stand on something. Climbed onto dressing table stool, was reaching for the window when the stool appeared to tip sideways. Fortunately I only have a huge bruise on my leg to show for it and the stool hadn't tipped , it had collapsed! Knew I'd put weight on over Christmas but not that much! Did think about staying in bed this morning - just in case the third thing happens!


This morning I have been on phone to insurance company about claiming for loss of metered water What a palaver! After getting it sorted that I would send bills in when I get the next one in April and that I could only send 2 as I only got the meter last April they phoned back . A different person asked me what had caused pipe to burst Then told me I'd have to get plumber to confirm it was ice Then said I'd have to send 3 bills. Explained again I didn't have 3 so was put on hold for the third time, then said to send in the 2, then asked me if I had their telephone number - how does she think I phoned in the first place if I haven't, then asked me if I had their address. Of course I do I'm insured with them.

OK rant over!!!

Oh Sue, you poor thing. Must admit I thought you would have to turn the boiler off if your water was turned off but that's because we haven't got a water tank and the boiler is off the mains - the man who came to sort the boiler out should have known that though. My brother-in-law is a plumber too so if we have a problem we phone him to ask what to do Hope your leg isn't hurting you too much, but I think you had the third thing with the Insurance Company Hope you get it all sorted soon - hugs to you

God Sue that all sounds terrible and I hope your leg isn't too sore, I think I would have stayed in bed just in case. Lets hope the rest of the year will be problem free for you after this start

Oh Sue - I'll bet you'll be glad when this week's over - not a good start totheyear. Hope the boiler problems are sorted soon and your bruises heal quickly.

Sue, how is your leg and your water pipe now - hope you have got it sorted

Leg still bruised but not too sore. Stool still in bits - trying to decide how to put it back together so it won't collapse again. Pipe mended this morning so am now doing a mountain of washing as I couldn't use the machine before. Still got some icicles though!!
