Post  LoopyLou Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:52 am

So that's 2 instances where the school failed in their duty of care for my child in one week Sad

I frog marched her inside and the secretary went straight and got the headmistress (oh yipee Rolling Eyes ) who took Emily straight to the First Aid room.....

What had happened was that Emily had been practicing a dance routine for the school christmas performance and her and another child had hit heads...the other childs teeth had gone into her scalp.... leaving a cut just under 2cm's long and bleeding profusely.

Whilst Mrs Otten (head) was mopping her up the dance teacher (Miss Jenny) came into the room and gave Emily a sidelong glance, not concerned one bit, then Mrs Otten said to her 'have you looked at Emily's head since her and Harley clashed in dance?' and Jenny said 'I checked her and there is absolutely nothing wrong with her'.... OMG....... I could have flattened her....... put it like this she rather sharpishly took a step back from me when I got in her face..... Evil or Very Mad I asked her how on earth she could stand there and say Emily wasn't injured when her hair was matted with blood and she had a gaping hole in her head........ the answer...... 'Well it wasn't there when I checked her!' Oh I really wanna swear and say what I really think of that reply... but I wont cos there are ladies present....... what I will say is B S!!!!

Miss Jenny (God I hate her!) then said well it must have opened up as she continued doing the dance, I said that was a load of codswallop as there is not enough flesh on the skull to allow that to happen, if it's cut it bleeds there and then it doesn't wait Rolling Eyes and I told her that was a pathetic excuse and she should just admit that she hadn't checked thoroughly and had missed it.

Anyway....... Miss Jenny left rather quickly after exclaiming that Emily was fine and didn't need to go to hossy, Mrs Otten said she wasn't sure.... so as I came out of school I asked my mate (who is a nurse and I trust) and she said it would need a stitch she thought....

So we trundled off to A & E (hastily making arrangements for my nurse friend to make sure Georgia was picked up) and first nurse said it needed stitching, then they said they'd glue it, then they changed their mind as it was a bite wound and said they'd leave it open but give her antibiotics for a week... they didn't want to close any bacteria into the wound as they were notorious for becoming infected the nurse said.

I was told to make her take it easy, no hair washing for 5 days and be very careful of the scab. So she is on antibiotics... we kept her off school yesterday as she has a very tender head and had a headache and it had bled a bit overnight...but she has gone in today with a note saying to keep her in at breaktimes etc... no running about.

So all in all a bloomin awful week....... I was very nearly on the phone to Ofsted I can tell you....... still might...haven't quite made my mind up yet. The school is not living up to parents expectations as far as duty of care is it? The A & E nurse said that the schools guidelines should read that any teeth wounds should always seek medical attention and a wound that size should definately have been taken to A & E immediately!

Lou... I would ring Ofsted... there is no way should that wound be left... they are not doing what they should. Poor Emily, she is going through a rough time at the moment.

As you say it is freezin outside. Dont think there was any frost around this morning though.

Dont know what I am doing today... Keith has gone back to bed not feeling too good... it does help when he takes his tablets last thing at night.

Have agood day and Lou wishing you lots of luck with whatever you decide and a gentle hug for Emily xx

Post  LoopyLou Thu Oct 21, 2010 12:32 pm

Also had my Rheumatology/Back appt yesterday....... should only have been a rheumatology appt but my back specialist has not contacted me at all since the op and I gather he is leaving it for my rheumatologist to deal with..... Rolling Eyes I said as much to Dr Menon (rheumy) yesterday and he said it's disgusting but if I don't mind, he doesn't. I said I prefered him to Dr Taylor anyway so I was happy! Dr Menon is lurvely!!!

He was disappointed after an examination that the op definately hasn't worked but instead of it being scar tissue he reckons that more of the soft nucleus of the disc has just leaked out as they only remove the pokey out bit.... he wants me to consider more surgery but not yet... I have to fully recover from this one he said... I told him I didn't think I wanted more surgery.. he said wait another 6 months to a year of this pain again and you may well change your mind! I suppose he could be right. He wanted me back into Rehab but I asked if we could delay till after Christmas.... so I am on the list for January to go back in for a couple of weeks... which is fine by me.

I told him that I believe the arthur is spreading thru the joints as have been having pain in left hip and both shoulders.... so he gave me a good going over and agrees that the arthur is in most joints now Sad he could only give me a steroid injection in one place though so I chose my left shoulder as that is the arm I hold my stick with... the jab itself wasn't too painful but I must admit I felt rotten for the rest of the day and I can't lift my arm this morning so have had to fish out my other handed stick out of the cupboard cos can't use the arm he stuck the needle in!

Also was a bit concerned cos there was blood in my urine, so had blood tests, he is worried the Methotrexate (cancer drug) is starting to affect my kidneys but he will keep an eye on that.

I also asked him if I could come off my steroid tablets as they are making me put on weight and that in turn is affecting the arthur and also they are raising my blood sugars and making the effects of the diabetes noticeable... so am feeling very tired and often having very light headed moments where sugar levels have got low. Always managed diabetes perfectly before the steroids ... so he has agreed I can stop them gradually over the next 2 weeks which is great.

Erm what else....?

Fink thats it!!! lol!

But yes, we had Emily's parent teacher evening last night..... and we spent a full half hour with them discussing what went wrong and we were apologised to, also the head mistress spent time with us and said she would be updating and reviewing First Aid proceedures with the advice from the hospital. She also said she had a meeting scheduled with the Play Rangers to discuss the suitability of the activities they are offering the kids and whether there is enought staff to kid ratio to make these activities safe. I think I could tell her the answer to that question! Emily is wounded proof!

Freezin Fursday (Thursday!) 6 big hugs all round for Emily, Keith, Lou, Lexie and I think Karen & Dulcie deserves one too as it affects all of you. I just can't believe the school neglected a bite (even an accidental one) I thought everyone knew that they are easy to get infected, however big they are, if they have broken the skin. When I worked at pre-school it had to be put in the accident book and the parents had to be informed and they signed the accident book. I would certainly inform Ofsted. Sorry to hear your health problems Lou Sad it's like a vicious circle, take drugs for one thing and they cause another.

Lexie - you go girl - I can't believe they cancelled the meeting and didn't reschedule another one immediately Shocked I really thought something would be solved in that meeting so I can only imagine how you must feel Evil or Very Mad

Sorry - good morning all Laughing Very white when I got up this morning - very cold now but the sun is shining so I don't mind as I can always wrap up. Definitely finishing my ATC today - got a heater on in my craft room as it doesnt warm up as much as the lounge as it was a bedroom. Martin has said he will get a bigger radiator in here.

Freezin Fursday (Thursday!) 4 for all of you who need one today.

Afternoon ladies. Hugs to those who need them especially Lexie, Lou and Karen! Had to wait in this morning for the gas man to service boiler and mend fire. He came at 8.30 but will have to come back next week as he needs to get a bit for the fire. I just thought the battery needed replacing! Then went to town and managed to get Michael's parcel! Made a card this afternoon for grandson's birthday next month. Can't believe he's 3 already. Cut it all out yesterday on Craft Robo - took an age and wasted a lot of card but got there in the end. I'll put a piccie on in due course but think I need better light to photograph it.
Got scrapbooking tonight but don't know whethe I'll go as I've got nothing organised to take.

Very clever Lexie - I constantly have cards with specific themes from my friend - she comes up with some really funny ideas and I am supposed to conjure up a card Laughing Laughing The latest is for next September with an Owl, donkey and elephant on it for her MIL 80th birthday Question Question Question Won't be too difficult as I have stamps for an owl and elephant, not sure about the donkey - will have to check my stamps. Got nearly a year to do it Laughing Laughing
